August Update!

August Update- Putting Up with ErinAugust Update- Putting Up with Erin

Hello! YES, I’m still alive, NO, the south hasn’t devoured me (yet), and YES I still love pickles. It’s be a whirlwind of a month, and I know, I know, I haven’t posted in a while. She says with her tail between her legs… While my pickling intentions have been strong, all my canning supplies are still with the movers (ugh). Even worse (double ugh), I have a huge bounty of fresh peaches and nectarines in my fridge that are just waiting to be jammed!

So just to give you a little update on what’s been happening with this pickle lady: I recently landed a new job working for the Environmental Protection Agency in Durham, NC. I officially start next Monday! After the epic road trip south in my beast of an unreliable car (we made it), I arrived in Durham on the 2nd to my amazing new tiny home, it’s called The Lil’ House. The trip was stressful, and the car overheated a number of times… but, along the way I passed through the tiny pickle mecca of Dillsburg, PA. Who knew a place of such magic and dill wonder existed?! Thank you Road Side America…

Things have been a bit hectic since I arrived last Sunday. With a constant stream of company, I haven’t really had time to “do me”. Whether you know me personally or not, there’s no hiding the fact that I am 98% extrovert. That being said, every once in a while even this extrovert needs some alone time. With all this tiny space to myself, I guess it’s time to get outside, learn how to pick up chickens, make new friends, do some yoga, and hit the Durham Farmers’ Market. Oh, I have a “pickle” date tomorrow… I know what you’re thinking (naughty) now, it’s not that type of pickle date! Geesh. 🙂

  1. Hi Erin!

I am a fellow pickle-eater and pickle-maker, and I have used your site for some recipe inspiration. I am a Durham-native, and was surprised to see that you recently re-located here. WELCOME! I just love Durham and I think you will too.

Let me know if you need any pickling help, or local tips. I love making new friends!

  2. That house is adorable, and the “Kowsher Dill” is just too much. I’m glad you made it to your new home, and look forward to more preserves. Several friends keep asking if I have any more bourbon mustard, but they’ll just have to wait for Xmas. Cheers!

  3. As your uncle I sure want to say that I am very proud of you. Have not seen you since you were very little at yer mom’s house. Just wanted to say you have a uncle out west in Colorado that loves ya and hopes the very best for you.
